W. R. Berkley Corporation Announces Senior Executive Appointments

Jeffrey M. Hafter Named Senior Vice President
Lucille T. Sgaglione Named Senior Vice President

GREENWICH, Conn., May 03, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- W. R. Berkley Corporation (NYSE: WRB) today announced the appointments of Jeffrey M. Hafter and Lucille T. Sgaglione as senior vice presidents. Both Ms. Sgaglione and Mr. Hafter will have oversight responsibility for certain of the Company's operating units and report to W. Robert Berkley, Jr., the Company's president and chief operating officer.

Mr. Hafter has more than 20 years of experience in the commercial property and casualty insurance industry. He most recently served as president of a casualty agency subsidiary of a leading managing insurance agent and underwriter of specialty casualty insurance. Mr. Hafter graduated with a B.S. in Finance and Economics from Ithaca College. His appointment is effective immediately.

Ms. Sgaglione has over 20 years of experience in the commercial property and casualty insurance industry. She most recently served as global head of large complex claims for a major insurer. Ms. Sgaglione earned a B.A. and M.A. in History from Stony Brook University and Columbia University, respectively, and a J.D. from St. Johns University. Her appointment is effective May 13, 2010.
